This itinerary includes overnight stay at Putao Lodge Hotel. This itinerary aim to introduce the wonderful land with distinctive culture and unique lifestyle of native people in Lisu villages.

 

Putao

Putao (457 meters above sea level) is situated in North of Myanmar, lies in a flat valley, famous as a jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snowcapped mountains. It is the base town and the gate way to Myanmar Himalayas for travellers who would like to enjoy the scenic leisurely atmosphere, to explore the rich culture of indigenous tribes, rich ecosystem, biodiversity, wildlife, rafting, trekking and climbing expeditions.
Hunting, foraging medicinal herbs, mining and gold panning are typical ways of life for the local people. The charm of Putao is differ from other destinations and sites in Myanmar. This Northern Myanmar’s treasure in Kachin State has so much to offer to its travellers.

 

Namhtunkoo

A large Lisu village situated about 20 km west of Putao on the cross road to blazing 3515 meters high Mt. Lancrumadin, one of the prominent mountains is the area is a perfect overnight trek from Putao. Trek through the jungle trail in dense forest filled with bamboo grove, across farm land with spectacular view of the Putao plain spiral through snake like crawling Mula creek down below.

 

Mulashidi

Meaning in Lisu “the village stands in the thatch field along Mula River”. Beautifully set up Lisu village lies 14 km south of Putao connected by 159 meters long suspension bridge and provides a fascinating view to the mountains as a backdrop.

 

Machanbaw

Located across Malikha River, connected by beautiful Malikha suspension bridge.

Brief Itinerary

Day-1 (Friday): Putao
Day-2 (Saturday): Trek to Namhtunkoo.
Day-3 (Sunday): Trek to Mulashidi. Jeep transfer to Putao.
Day-4 (Monday): Excursion to Machanbaw and boat trip to Nat Kyun.
Day-5 (Tuesday): Putao – onward journey

Detailed Itinerary

Day-1 (Friday): Putao (arrival)
Arrival. Upon arrival at Putao airport you will be met by Putao trekking house’s representative and transferred to your guest house. Putao lies in a flat valley, jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. After a brief fresh up take a walk around Putao for the orientation. Dinner and overnight at Putao Trekking House. (_, _, D)

 
Day-2 (Saturday): Putao – Namhtunkoo (trek)
Early in the morning walk to Putao market (approx 10 minute), visit attractive market often busy with local ethnic tribes. Return to hotel, breakfast and head off towards Namhtunkoo Lisu village, situates west of Putao on the cross road to Mt. Lancrumadin (20 km, approx 5 hours). Walk through cultivation field passing some small villages and farm land. After about one hour walking on the flat land you are immediately in to wildness with lush tropical evergreen forests. About 3 hours trek through the terrain up hill you reach approx 2250 ft, 680 meters shoulder of Namhtun mountain range from where the path descends all the way. Far west you will see blazing 11530 ft, 3495 meters high Lancrumadin Mountain towards Indian border. Lunch stop and continue trek another one more hour through the farm land to the village. Check in at a designated home and heading to Namhtun creek, usually busy during the late afternoon by local on their return home from field. Dinner and overnight at Namhtun guest house. (B,L,D)

 
Day-3 (Sunday): Namhtunkoo – Mulashidi – Putao (trek/jeep)
Breakfast and we bit good bye to the locals and walk about 1½ hour (with the distance 2.5 km) through the field along Namhtun creek crossing the creek a couple of time. Once we get in to the wildness the terrain immediate become deep up amongst bamboo forests which leads up to 2658 ft, 810 meters, which should take us about one hour (with the distance 1.25 km). From here descending trek goes through sub-tropical forests about one hour through (with the distance 1.82 km). We continue trek through farm land about one hour (with the distance 1.18 km) from where we enjoy a spectacular view of the Putao plain spiral through snake like crawling Mula creek. About 1½ hour easy walk then we meet with out waiting jeep and travel further to Mulashidi village where we enjoy beautiful surrounding often back drop with snow capped mountains in distance. Later we return back to Putao. Dinner and overnight at Putao Lodge.

 
Day-4 (Monday): Putao – Machanbaw – Nat Kyun – Putao (jeep/boat)
Breakfast and excursion by jeep to Machanbaw (20 km, approx one hour). Machanbaw is a small administrative town ex-Putao with beautifully set up colonial style town. Arrive at Naungkhine village and walk through by a small suspension bridge span across Malikha river to Machanbaw. Excursion in town includes a small market and walk up to the so-called stone dragon park which should takes about 20 minutes to view the snake-like rock formation. Walk back to the river front, cross suspension bridge to other side and drive back to Putao. Lunch at hotel and have a relaxing afternoon in Putao. Dinner and overnight at Putao Trekking House. Day-5 (Tuesday): Putao (departure) – onward journey
Departure. Breakfast and perhaps a last minute shopping at Putao market and further visit in and around Putao with suggestion by your guide. Lunch and afternoon transfer to airport for your onward departure flight to conclude this unique experience. (B, L)
